Loading an Oversized Image to Site
Builder
Sometimes an image may be too large for the Site Builder image wizard to
upload. The upload limit in the builder is 100kb. If so, you will receive a
message at the top of the image loader that the image was not uploaded because
it was too large. There is a work-around for this issue.
Most commonly you will add your images in the Site Builder, Under Web Site,
and under Images. That is the simplest and easiest method when working in the
Site Builder.
If you encounter this problem, here is a solution to get your image
added.
Please note that it is not recommended, however, to upload extremely huge
pictures to your website. It can cause your site to load slowly, and it can be
excruciating for those using a dial up connection. It simply is not good web
practice to load very large graphics. So this is not to instruct you to load
massive and extremely large image files to your site. It is to assist if you are
loading a banner, for instance that is 175kb and the site builder will only
allow you to load a 100kb image (hypothetical).
You will need to access your Web Host Control Panel. If you host with us, you
already know how to access your Control Panel from your Initial Site Setup
Instructions.
Log into your Control Panel. Go to Legacy File Manager. Continue until you
are inside the File Manager and you see some folders. One of the folders is
called Public_Html. CAUTION! Be CAREFUL what you edit here. These are raw data
files and you can cause site issues if you are not careful.
Click on the Bubblet next to the folder
Public_Html. Not on the words "Public_Html" but on the Bubblet to the LEFT of "Public_Html."
Now click on the file folder next to "Images." Look at the upper right and
you will see a link to "Upload Files." Click the "Upload Files" link, then
Browse where indicated to locate the image you wish to upload. There is a
checkbox where you can choose to overwrite existing files. Select or deselect as
needed. Then click upload.
After you upload the image, you can obtain its url by clicking on the file
name on the left. You will have to refresh to see the newly uploaded file, you
can do this by clicking again at this time on the upper far left where it says
"images" so new content will appear. Click on the
name of the file. Then look to your far right, and at the very bottom of the
window you'll see the text url: and your image link.
You can click on the link, it will open in a new window, make sure it is the
right image, copy the full url from the open browser window. Then insert the
image url where it is needed. Exit Control Panel.
